Biden Signs Executive Order on Environmental Justice

Well, how's this to round out the end of the week and to welcome Earth Day?!

President Joe Biden signed an executive order directing every federal agency to prioritize "environmental justice for all" and to improve the lives of communities affected most by climate change and toxic pollution. The order will establish a new Office of Environmental Justice within the White House, which

will coordinate efforts across the government and require all federal agencies to notify communities if toxic substances are released from a federal facility. The president stated that the order would work to reverse policies that have hurt Black and other minority communities, including discriminatory residential 'redlining.' He also criticized Republican efforts to repeal climate provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act and to maintain $30 billion in subsidies to the oil industry. The order will help hold the federal government accountable for the impact of its policies on low-income, Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities facing dangerous hazards. Additionally, Vice President Kamala Harris announced a $562 million investment to help communities become more resilient to climate change in Miami, which is currently experiencing gasoline shortages due to flooding.
